BIOCOM on Thursday named the recipients of its annual awards and appointed new members to serve on the 2006-2007 board.

The James McGraw Distinguished Contribution Award went to Jack Lief, president and CEO of Arena Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: ARNA).

The William W. Otterson Award, established to recognize individuals who demonstrate outstanding support for the region's life science industry, was awarded to Stephen Ferruolo of Heller Ehrman LLP.

The BIOCOM Legislator of the Year Award was presented Assemblywoman Lynn Daucher and the Community Partner of the Year Award to the San Diego Foundation.
Appointed to the board were Lisa A. Haile, J.D., Ph.D., life science practice head of DLA Piper Rudnick; Alan Lewis, Ph.D., president and CEO of Novocell Inc.; Alexis Lukianov, president and CEO of NuVasive Inc. (Nasdaq: NUVA); Jackson Streeter, M.D., founder and chairman of PhotoThera Inc.; Scott N. Wolfe, partner of the corporate department of Latham & Watkins; and Stephen Weber, president of San Diego State University.
